*sigh* yeah i'm not gonna lie and say racism doesn't exist, because it does. xP and it seems like most of american society favors caucasians. it makes me think of the whole avatar movie thing. like how in the show, every single character is asian but when they were casting for the live action movie they asked for white people... idk it seems like people are always going to discriminate against certain races and there's not much we can do to change their minds. >.<

I agree with everything proudtexas girl said. Im very paled skin too, people make fun of me for it. Whatever big deal, learn to accept yourself and love it. I rather be pale than to be overtan and look gross. And this racism issue, people always blame "white" people for this. I have a perfect example that just happened to me, So I was walking downtown with my friends and 4 black guys come up to us asking for money to help support their basketball team. We all were thinking about it but we said, sorry we can't. We walk away, they start coming up next to us saying how were being racist and don't like black people. Im like wtf, because i didn't give you money your accusing me of being racist... People always assume white people are racist, not all of us are. Black people and other races can be racist. Its dumb how they always blame it on white people. And you said "its amazing that the society (white) that created that racial barrier within the racises has flipped their social ideology"
America's society isn't just white people. If you remember America is filled with different races. We didn't create this "racial barrier" but mutiple people did. Honestly I understand you were hurt by this whole dark skin stuff, but i have white skin and get hurt by it all the time. I decided I was done with that hurting me and i stand up for myself now. I love the way I am, you should feel the exact same way. Don't let anyone tell you you're not pretty.

excuse me. "complaining" was the wrong word, but what would you say it is that you are doing?
its not entirely the white peoples fault; again, black people were continuously selling each other out. yes, slavery was bad, but white people have repented for their actions, this country has created laws so that blacks are equal, blacks can enough scholarships so that they can pay for their entire college simply because they are black. i mean really, what more do you want? whites dont control the media. the media is made up of whites, blacks, asians, latinos, etc. they make fun of everyone. they make up ridiculous stories just to attract attention. its not white peoples fault.

see now ur sorta changing what you said jeezys comment was supportive yours was..not. you accused me of "complaining" about my skin and that such extreme discrimination didnt exist

weeell it does and im not

and yes i am very much aware that blacks sold other blacks in most cases but there are cases where black people were abducted and that dosnt change the fact that in order to keep them in submission they sepreated the lights from the darks and caused them to distrust each other to this very day do u know that the lighter slaves where more accepted by the whites and allowed to work in their homes as cooks and maids while the darker slaves worked in the fields? this is yet another reason for the interracial racism you see today
and its not only in the black community one of my indian friends says the same emphasis on lighter skin exists in india! and i belive uve heard of the british occupation of india? well there you go and there are soo many examples of interracial racism and just because you never experianced it dosnt mean it dosnt exist

i didnt say racism doesnt exist. i said that you arent comfortable in your own skin and years of being fun of has made you that way. i didnt say it was your fault. i said that you need to learn to accept yourself as you are because its never going to change. thats pretty much exactly what jeezy said except i said it in a different way. bleaching companies make their money because they feed off of peoples insecurities. again, i never said it was the users fault, but societys for making fun of them.

and actually, did you know that the slaves that were sold to the whites were originally sold by other black people? black people enslaved others because they saw there was a demand for it. (white people didnt come and abduct africans) just as bleaching companies sell their products because there is a demand, historically, black people sold each other out for the profit.

proud texas girl: well while i respect your opinion i do not agree at all. first off im not "complaining" about my skin color and you tellme how 14 years of being told ur ugly because you are so dark isnt going to affect the way you see yourself?? im not imagining the things i hear from ppl ok? and you are obviously extremly ignorant to think that that sort of discrimination dosnt exist. the one that i am most familiar with is in the black community. give me a list of promenent black actors and celbrities the vast majority of them are very light skinned and you know why that is? because in the african american community they are the ones that are generally considered more beautiful. and why would ppl want to be lighter? why do bleaching companies make billions of dollars of of this kind of racism? yes because the media tells us that if your not a light skinned black person then you are not beautiful and historiically if you have ever read "How to enslave generations" one of the best ways to keep a society under control is to split them up here s a quote for you "make the light skinned slaves distrust the dark skinned slaves" the root of racism within the black community comes from slavery and the white americans and noo im not one of those black ppl who blame whites for all my problems im just telling you the facts
so next timeyou wanna "educate" someone make you you know what your talking about first

Re: Racism with a Race

Well I haven't read your blogs, but I did read this and figured I'd tell you my point of view.

First of all, I am "pale" (I wouldn't really consider myself "pale" because my skin is even and not blotchy as "pale" skin tends to be; I would consider my skin porcelain). I honestly don't think that "tan" girls look attractive. Maybe a subtle summer glow, but girls who are extremely tan look absolutely ridiculous to me. Not only do they look ridiculous, but when they get older, they will wrinkle much faster, their skin will be leathery, and they are way more susceptible to skin cancer and other diseases. I also know alot of other people, including many guys, who perfer a "pale" girl over a girl who tans ridiculously. So I believe you are under a misconception when you say that the "white race" perfers more tan people over lighter people.

Also, I honestly don't believe that such extreme preference of lighter skinned people over darker skinned people exists; I think alot of that has to do with how you view yourself. I haven't personally dealt with this supposed discrimination, but I have been made fun of in my life, and I know what it can and does do to your self esteem. Just as there are some people who perfer more tanned white girls, there are people who perfer lighter skinned black girls. It's all just a matter of preference.

I honestly believe that "discrimination" exists within ourselves and they way we feel about ourselves. If you don't feel beautiful in your own skin, you're not going to feel like anyone else thinks your beautiful, Just as you said, God created you the way you are, and there isn't anything you can do to change it. No matter how dark or light you are, if you believe you are beautiful, other people will feel that confidence and not only will they think you are beautiful, but it will help them feel better about themselves. I don't think complaining about your color is going to help anyone; if anything, it's going to promote the exact kind of discrimination you are talking about.

And one other thing: its amazing that the society (white) that created that racial barrier within the racises has flipped their social ideology.
White people didn't create "discrimination" or whatever it is that you are talking about here. Racists exist in every color. I'm not going to go on anymore about this topic because I want to help educate you, not argue with you.

Racism with a Race

Aug 1, 2009 6:25 PM
hey peeps! i really dont know how many people read my blogs (im guessing not many since i have so few comments lol aaannnways its all good)

well if you have read my previous posts then you know all about my one big insecurity. and incase you havnt then here it is: im dark skinned like alek wek (look her up!!) and because of this alot of ppl in the black community have hurt me by saying things that.. well..hurt alot about how dark i am. hopefully you remember what rachel said to me before (if you dont then read the previous posts im not re writing it here) anyways i was on youtube watching a song from a bollywood video you may have heard of it "Bride and Prejudice" its the bollywood version of Pride and Prejudice. and one of the girls on there made a comment like "wow they chose the lightest indians for all of the roles" and it hit me.. its not only in the black community where people with lighter skin are deemed more attractive. its across the world every major race buts beutly with fair skin which is so ironic because in the white societly (well at least in the us) its not pretty to be pale everyone wants to be tan.. its amazing that the society (white) that created that racial barrier within the racises has flipped their social ideology

well ive just decided that thats what i am going to write my IB topic on come senior year. i can survey people and everything i think God let me go through alot of the pain and the coming to terms associated with me being so dark so that i can use it to help educate others..

anyways what do you think?
