9/11 attacks could have been prevented a long time ago if the us hadn't PROVIDED those countries with those weapons during the cold war. well seeing as how that was the ww2, not listening to hitler would have been a start in stopping it. also, if the "major powers" in the world such as the us and japan weren't so imperialistic and stubborn no one would have been like "OH WELL, THEY BOMBED US SO LETS BOMB THEM BACK" (obviously this isn't what happened but you get my point.) again same mistakes. we are killing innocent victims for the sole reason of power and control of a place of which we do not own. if world peace is a global effort, then why is one of the most powerful countries in the world at war? -- Edited by janet_22 at 08/23/2008 2:35 PM PDT -- a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous! - coco chanel Proud to be Canadian

War is not two dimensional. In war, there aren't neccesarily a "winning" and "losing" side. The same goes for our reasons for being there. I said... We didn't go over there just to kill the bad guys and leave. We went over there to help the people and I won't lie, another reason was maybe for a little revenge or something to that extent. We are helping these people and in turn, contributing to your idea of "world peace". There are many factors that contribute to the beginning and end of war. -- Edited by proudtexasgirl at 08/23/2008 1:44 PM PDT -- My name is Katie. I love Joseph. Proudtexasgirl, creativechick seems that we're "fighting the bad guys" and then leaving. I was making the post to her. Secondly, before you had said that the whole reason for the war was to combat the terrorists of 9/11. Now you think we went over there to help them? That's not our job. It's the UN's. -- Edited by xAnotherRainyDayx at 08/23/2008 1:24 PM PDT -- well maybe you should just drink a lot less coffee and never ever watch the ten o'clock news maybe you should kiss someone nice or lick a rock, or both ---Regina Spektor Ghost of Corporate Future

Once again, World Peace is a nice idea but it is no where near a realistic plan or achieveable goal. Like you said, no matter how many "bad guys" we kill, there's always going to be more. So how can we ever achieve peace if the "bad guys" will always exist? And, we're not winning anything. We're trying to reconstruct the country and "protect" them. What do you think "winning" is? We didn't go over there just to kill the bad guys and leave. We went over there to help the people and I won't lie, another reason was maybe for a little revenge or something to that extent. We are helping these people and in turn, contributing to your idea of "world peace". -- Edited by proudtexasgirl at 08/22/2008 9:08 PM PDT -- My name is Katie. I love Joseph. JANET22 Two questions: One: How could we have prevented the war in the first place? We didn't start the war; Japan sneak attacked us and killed thousands of our soldiers. Two: How are we making the same mistakes? We can't prevent unannounced terroristic acts. We couldn't have prevented Pearl Harbor just like we couldn't have prevented 9/11. Correction: We could have prevented 9/11 if, back in 1993 when the Trade Towers were originally bombed, we had taken out the terrorists then. But instead, Clinton didn't do anything about it. How effective is talking and comprimising with radicals who are bred to believe that any and all western civilization is evil? Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. Both relavent quotes. -- My name is Katie. I love Joseph. Kenneth Wayne Savage is my guardian angel.

can i butt in here? someone said something about "timeline on war or something like that did you know that bush recently did the "SURGE" he put TONS of soldiers in iraq/iran w/e..and we are currently WINNING the war!! Um, yeah. It's Iraq. Not Iran. And, we're not winning anything. We're trying to reconstruct the country and "protect" them. -- Edited by xAnotherRainyDayx at 08/22/2008 5:05 PM PDT -- well maybe you should just drink a lot less coffee and never ever watch the ten o'clock news maybe you should kiss someone nice or lick a rock, or both ---Regina Spektor Ghost of Corporate Future

obviously just having more wars is not doing anything. what are we really achieving? it doesn't matter how many people you kill who are bad, there are still more out there. i think th un needs to take more action towards world peace. and i know this is obviously a long term goal, but i don't think fighting and violence is a permanent solution. or a solution at all really. -- a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous! - coco chanel Proud to be Canadian

i guess i have to agree with you there. but there are still ways the war could have been prevented in the first place. but we're supposed to leanr from out mistakes, not make the same ones? -- a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous! - coco chanel Proud to be Canadian
