you probably don't remember what it's like since the last time you had a shot you were uber young. they really don't hurt at all lol the most you would feel is a tiny prick but it doesn't hurt, you just feel it. I'm terrified of needles so I just can't look at it. just look away & it will definitely help.

i mean i feela little better now andi went to the doctor yesterday and they said i got an mma shot when i was 10 but i dont remember ANYTHING
strange right??
anyway
they said i hafta get a tatnus shot now too!
my mom said i could get it another day, like after i get the h1n1 because i feel a little less nervous about that one since its in school
i cried yesterday too :/ and then my mom got pi ssed at me because i was so upset
im really not afraid of the soreness or even the actual virus at all
i just HATE needles
its nice to know someone else hates them as much as i do and its not the pain i dont like its just the idea of it ya know?
i feel like such a baby lol
oh well, i think i'll be okay for the tetnus after the h1n1 because i just feel safer in school then i do at the doctors office
just bad memories i guess

AbbyGirl195:
she probably hasn't had a shot since she was 5 or 6.
i'm 16, and last year when i was 15 i had my physical [i get one every 2 years]. i hadn't gotten a shot since i was like 6, but it was my year to update shots and i got SEVEN that day. and a few of them were like the gardasil that you have to get one in a few months, so basically i was a pin cushion for a few months.

anyways, my school is giving out swine vaccines too. & my mom is making me get it. i would much rather go to the doctor where i know they know what they're doing, but i have to get it through the school because its free and its during the school day, so my mom doesn't have to make time to take me. i'm not nervous for the shot, i'm nervous that the nurses won't know how to give the shot.
just don't look at the shot when they're giving it. shut your eyes or look the other way.
& like i said, when i got my shots last year, i hadn't gotten them in about 10 years and i was so nervous. my mom was with me and i was seriously sitting in the exam room bawling because i was so scared. but it was nothing! my arms were sore for a few days after, but thats probably only because i got a lot of shots.

Here are a few suggestions:

-Make sure you're hydrated on the same day you get the shot because that'll make your vein more prominent and easier to find.
-Tell the person giving the shot to you that you are afraid of needle's maybe they have a good sense of humor, they'll strike up idle chatter and lighten the mood so you can relax.
-Drop your shoulder to relax the arm the pain might be worse if your tense.
-Take a deep breath and blow out during the injection.

I'm not getting the h1n1 vaccination because I'm homeschooled and don't get out much anyway. When I do, though, I wash my hands frequently or bring hand-sanitizer. I never touch my face when I'm out.
For some reason I'm more afraid of the vaccination then I am the actual virus.
I think the media is blowing it out of proportion anyway. The way you get it is the same way you get the seasonal flu. A lot of people die from the seasonal flu too.

Personally, needles don't bother me, and I had to get one a couple of days ago at my school as well.
I was trying to keep some of my friends calm, and afterwards, they were saying how overrated it was.
All it is, is the tinyest pinch, and it's over and done with.
Sure, it's difficult for some people, but there are more painful things. Such as, stubbing your toe, or, burning yourself on the straightener.
It will be over before you know it, and once you've had it done, you'll realise all the fuss was for nothing.
Don't worry (:

I'm not getting it either. Its basically just a new string of the flu that no one knew about, now people are turning it into a huge deal, when its not.

I know a lot of people who've had it and they got over it in less time than it takes to get over influenza.

It's possible that you haven't gotten shots since you were young.
I am not getting the H1N1 shot.

I don't go to public school either. I go to private school. It shouldn't matter where you attend school you have to get a tetanus shot before you can enter 7th grade, because it's highly contagious. I've never heard about someone not getting shots since they were 5. You should probably bring this up to your doctor.

You haven't had an injection since you were 5 or 6? What about your booster shots and the shots you have to get to be elligible to enter 7th grade?

Anyway, it's really fast and it will only hurt for a few seconds. Just tell yourself that you're going to get the shot, there's nothing you can do about it. No use getting worked up about it.
