So he's nice to you... That's not a bad thing. He may like like you, he may not - none of us can tell you that. If you don't want to go to prom with him, even as friends, tell him that. It doesn't matter whether you tell him nicely or bluntly as long as you get your point across. How you say it to him depends on your relationship with him and again, none of us can help you with that because we just don't know.
If you don't want to go with him, don't.

so what, some guy is nice to you and tells you things. doesnt mean he automatically likes you. why worry about it unless he makes some kind of move. and if he does then just say you dont like him like that. simple.

humans have a knack for choosing precisely the things that are worst for them.

I have a boyfriend and I made it apparent that we're having a few issues, which we ARE, but it isn't going to be devastating I don't think.

And he's all nice and we tell each other things and we trust each other and I love his as a friend but I could NEVER date him. Just no.

But he wants me to take him to my prom and he wants to take me to his prom, even if just as "friends" and he says that he thinks we'd be a pretty good couple.

Oh and he's my best friend's ex and apparent my name came up in arguments they've had before. :/

So 1) He must like me, right? and 2) Should I let him down gently or just say I'm bringing someone else to prom and I'm sorry.

This is just so out of my mental comprehending.
